A speedup for Bagman seemed like a good idea. I didn't want it to be Turbo all the time, though. That would make the game too easy. So, I decided to make Turbo active only when you hold P1 start during the game. Hack 2. Impotent guards. Turbo made the game much more playble, but you could still get into some sticky situations where a little more cheating would come in handy, like when those guards get you trapped in a dead end. I decided to also add the option to turn off the guard collision detection. I didn't want it off all the time, though, so I made it so you have to hold P2 start to turn off guard collisions and collision detection returns when you let go. Learn More

Galaxian - Moon Cresta - Scramble Test Roms by philmurr

There has been a Galaxian test ROM freely available for years and it does a really good job testing programme, object and video RAM on Galaxian boards.

As there are a number of games that run on hardware very similar to Galaxian, I've been able to modify the Galaxian test ROM code and have made versions to test the RAM on Moon Cresta and Scramble boards. (It won't test the object RAM on Scramble as that is read-only, as I found out today - Mame doesn't emulate it properly). I've also tidied up the code in the original Galaxian ROM as there was a lot left in there that was never used.

I've added a way of "testing" the attack or sprite RAM into the 2nd set of test ROMs. Again you can't read from this RAM but can only write to it. But unlike the object RAM where there isn't an easy way of seeing a fault, I've written a routine which relies on the user visually checking something is happening in order to test the sprite RAM.

The games can have up to 8 sprites on the screen (strictly speaking 7½). My routine displays 1 sprite and has it falling from the top of the screen to the bottom, then adds a 2nd sprite doing the same, until we have all 8 (7½) on screen and falling. It then repeats forever. If you see anything other than a regular pattern, suspect the sprite RAM as being faulty.

Burn the file you want to a 2716 and replace the first ROM on the board you're testing.

Those little fish guys start going faster than you after the 2nd screen. It's impossible! Now, with Make Trax Turbo, the game is way, way more fun. Make Trax Turbo makes the paint brush zoom! Never go slower than the enemies. Now, how long you play is based on your skill. Learn More

Pac & Pal / Pac-Man & Chomp Chomp on Super Pac-Man boardset patch by Vernon Brooks

This patch allows Pac & Pal / Pac-Man & Chomp Chomp to work properly on a Super Pac-Man boardset.
This is needed because the second I/O controller which reads the dip switches is different
between the two games. The patch is the same for both versions of Pac & Pal but some of the
    offsets are different.

  9. Qbert background color change hack

    Qbert background color change hack

    $0.00

Must be registered and go though a quick $0 checkout to receive downloads. This hack allows you to have a black screen instead of blue on the Qbert attract screen (to hide the burn!) For the technical details... the background color is stored at memory location 0x0EAC, 0x0EAD. There are two places in the ROM that write that value during attract, so I changed them to write black (0x00, 0x00) instead of blue (0x27, 0x03). As always, use at your own risk...
