Upgrade a compatible original Nintendo Donkey Kong Jr. arcade PCB with the Braze Technologies Donkey Kong Jr. kit, adding true Free Play, permanent Top 5 score and initials saving, selectable attract-mode sound, power-on diagnostics, and an on-screen settings menu.

The kit uses the original Z80 processor from the Donkey Kong Jr. board and installs through the CPU socket. No soldering is required when the original Z80 is already installed in a compatible 40-pin socket.

Product Scope

This product is the standard Donkey Kong Jr. Free Play and High Score Save Kit manufactured by Braze Technologies.

It does not add the John Kowalski Donkey Kong Jr. Remix levels, trainer functions, or the Donkey Kong Rearranged 3DKJr multigame. Those are separate product options available in the Donkey Kong Jr. category.

Hardware Compatibility

Important CPU Socket Note

Inspect the CPU board before ordering or beginning installation. Some Nintendo board configurations may have the Z80 processor soldered directly to the PCB rather than installed in a socket. If the processor is soldered, a qualified arcade technician must remove it and install a compatible 40-pin socket before this kit can be used.

Installation Requirements

Installation Overview

1. Turn off and unplug the arcade cabinet before accessing the Donkey Kong Jr. CPU board.
2. Inspect the original Z80 processor and confirm that it is installed in a compatible socket.
3. Carefully remove the original Z80 from the Nintendo PCB.
4. Install the original Z80 into the socket on the Braze daughterboard, observing the correct Pin 1 orientation.
5. Install the assembled daughterboard into the vacated Z80 socket on the original arcade board.
6. Confirm the processor and daughterboard orientation before restoring cabinet power.
7. Power on the cabinet and verify operation using the Braze Donkey Kong Jr. installation guide.

Free Play, Attract Sound, and Settings

The Braze Donkey Kong Jr. kit provides true Free Play while retaining the complete standard attract sequence.

Supported attract-mode sound can be enabled or disabled through the on-screen settings menu. The same menu provides access to supported game settings and the high score table reset function.

An automatic power-on self-test runs each time the cabinet is started.
