The Darksoft Namco System 2 Multigame Kit allows supported games to run on compatible original Namco System 2 arcade hardware. The setup uses separate multigame PCBs for the original main PCB and Video PCB, along with ten programmable memory modules and a rotary game selector.

Namco System 2 Compatibility & Requirements

Main Hardware: Working original Namco System 2 main PCB
Video Hardware: Compatible Namco System 2 Video PCB revision shown in the installation guide
Protection: Valid KEYCUS device on the Video PCB, or documented diode replacement
Memory: Ten removable programmable memory modules
Programmer: ProMan / TL86_Plus required if programming the modules yourself
Game Selection: Included rotary selector
Installation Level: Advanced board-level installation

Important: Not every Namco System 2 board stack is compatible. Confirm the exact Video PCB revision before ordering.

The memory-module programming adapter is included. The ProMan / TL86_Plus programmer is not included.

Donor-Board Preparation

1. Prepare the Main PCB Remove the Mask ROMs and EPROMs identified in the guide from the MAINCPU, SLAVE CPU, AUDIOCPU, C140 voices, C123 tilemap, and DATAROM sections. Do not remove chips identified as SRAM or MCU.
2. Prepare the Video PCB Remove only the chips identified in the S2ROZ and SPRITES sections. Leave the KEYCUS device, SRAM, and USER2 chips installed unless following the documented KEYCUS replacement procedure.
3. Set Jumpers & DIP Switches Configure the donor-board jumpers exactly as shown in the installation guide. Set all main-board DIP switches to OFF for initial startup.
4. Check Ground-Plate Clearance Remove or reposition any vertical metal ground plate that could contact the underside of the installed multigame PCB.
Ground-Plate Warning

Metal ground plates that contact the underside of the Darksoft hardware can damage the multigame kit. Verify clearance before the board stack is reassembled.

Installing the Two Multigame PCBs

1. Separate the Original Board Stack Separate the original main PCB and Video PCB before installing the Darksoft boards.
2. Remove the Multigame PCBs Carefully Lift each board vertically from the protective antistatic foam to avoid bending underside pins.
3. Align Every Pin Verify that every multigame-board pin lines up with the corresponding socket before applying pressure.
4. Install Both Multigame Boards Install the larger board on the original main PCB and the smaller board on the compatible Video PCB.
5. Reassemble the System 2 Stack Reassemble the original board stack only after both multigame PCBs are securely installed.
6. Connect the Cables Connect the linking cable between the two Darksoft PCBs and the rotary-selector cable to the larger board.

Programming the Ten Memory Modules

Seven Main-Board Modules + Three Video-Board Modules Each of the ten removable modules must be programmed individually using the included adapter and a ProMan/TL86_Plus programmer.
Multiple Module Capacities The modules use 128-Mbit, 256-Mbit, and 512-Mbit capacities. Select the correct device size in the programmer software as documented.
Return Each Module to Its Correct Position Match the white orientation triangle on each module to the corresponding triangle on the multigame PCB. Do not interchange module positions.

Selecting a Game

After the donor boards, multigame PCBs, linking cable, rotary selector, and programmed memory modules are installed correctly, choose the desired configuration with the rotary selector while the system is powered off, then power on the Namco System 2 hardware.

Important Before Ordering
  • Not every Namco System 2 board combination is compatible.
  • Compare your Video PCB with the compatible board shown in the installation guide.
  • Installation requires board-stack disassembly, ROM removal, jumper setup, and memory programming.
  • Use an experienced arcade technician if you are not comfortable with board-level work.
  • Disconnect power and discharge static before handling the hardware.
  • Use only game data that you are legally entitled to possess and operate.

Bought a few of the Darksoft kits at the start of the year. Amazingly fast tracking provided and delivery was great. Kits were sent with signature required. Got them all installed and work great! Preordered the MVS coming out soon too! I'll be back for more (and tell all of my friends where to buy them at)
