A Multigame Upgrade for Original Taito SJ Hardware
The Frontline Vertical Taito Multigame kit expands documented compatible original Taito SJ arcade hardware without replacing the original PCB stack.
The original CPU, game, video, ROM/RAM, and sound hardware remain part of the system while the HighScoreSaves daughterboards provide the supported multigame, score-saving, menu, and operator features.
This makes the kit appropriate for original-hardware collectors who want additional games and convenience features while continuing to operate the authentic Taito SJ platform.
Free Play and Permanent Score Saving
Saves the Top 10 supported scores and qualifying initials for supported games.
Uses serial EEPROM storage with no score-save battery or NVRAM required.
Maintains supported score tables for two-, three-, and four-life settings.
Save and restore supported high-score data through the kit menu.
Start supported games without inserting coins.
Continue accepting quarters or tokens when Free Play is disabled.

Game Menu and Settings Menu Access
Game-selection menu: During attract mode, hold Player 1 Start until the game-selection menu appears.
Protected settings menu: With cabinet power off, hold Player 1 Start while turning the cabinet on. Release the button when the on-screen prompt tells you to continue.

Important: Remove All Program and Sound ROMs
The current installation guide specifically states that all documented program and sound ROMs must be removed for this kit installation. The kit will not operate correctly with those ROMs left installed.
Taito SJ Installation Overview
This is a multi-board Taito SJ installation. The PCB stack must be partially disassembled so the main and sound daughterboards can be installed correctly.
Confirm that the original game board is documented compatible Taito SJ hardware and is fully operational before installation.
Photograph and label the flat cables, connectors, board orientation, and spacer locations before separating the PCB stack.
The main Z80 CPU is removed from IC56 on the CPU board and transferred to the main HighScoreSaves daughter card.
The current guide documents removal of the MCU at IC24 during the main-board installation.
Install the main Z80 on the daughterboard with correct Pin 1 orientation, then install the completed daughterboard into the vacated IC56 location.
Remove the sound Z80 CPU from IC52 on the game board and install it on the supplied sound daughter card.
Remove all documented sound ROMs from locations IC70 through IC73.
Remove the documented program ROMs from locations IC1 through IC10 on the ROM board.
Install the sound Z80 on the daughterboard with correct Pin 1 orientation and fit the completed module into the empty IC52 socket.
Reassemble the stack using the documented included standoffs and original spacers. Make sure neither daughterboard contacts the video board, CPU board, capacitors, or other components.
PCB Stack Clearance Matters
The current guide requires replacement standoffs during reassembly and specifically warns that the main daughterboard must not touch the video board, CPU board, or nearby components. Check all clearances before reconnecting the ribbon cables and restoring cabinet power.

Wi-Fi can be disabled without affecting supported Frontline gameplay, the other included Taito games, Free Play, local score saving, ROM Saver, attract sounds, or menu operation.

Taito Front Line multi game
This kit is awesome! Not only do you get a free play option you also get high score saves AND you also get another 6 games in addition to Front Line! I had never played 4 of the games so it was a blast to play some “new” games.
Kit is easy to install and customer service is excellent. Fast shipping too.

Very happy that Highscoresaves makes kits for these classic arcade games. Ordered and received within a few days. Install guide is straight forward for an easy installation. The save kit works perfectly. Highly recommended!
