Reactor Compatibility & Requirements
Installation: Plug-in installation when the original 8088 processor location is already socketed. If the processor is soldered directly to the PCB, a compatible 40-pin socket must be installed before the kit can be used. Install the 8088 on the daughterboard with Pin 1 correctly aligned before installing the assembled daughterboard into the original CPU socket.
Reactor Settings Menu Access
With the cabinet powered off, press and hold Player 1 Start. Continue holding Player 1 Start while turning the cabinet on, then release the button when prompted on screen. The menu provides access to supported gameplay options, lives and bonus settings, attract-sound behavior, score-table functions, Backup and Restore, God Mode, and other kit settings.
What This Kit Adds
What's Included
Standard vs. Wi-Fi Kit
Standard Kit
Stores supported scores and settings locally and provides normal Reactor gameplay, Free Play, local high score saving, menu operation, Backup and Restore, God Mode, and other documented local features without requiring an internet connection.
Wi-Fi Enabled Kit
Includes the same local functionality and adds qualifying online leaderboard score submission through the HighScoreSaves platform.
Wi-Fi can be disabled without affecting local score saving or normal gameplay. Wi-Fi-enabled kits use compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
Reactor Kit FAQ
Does this kit require an original Gottlieb Reactor PCB?
Yes. The kit is designed for documented compatible original Gottlieb Reactor arcade PCBs and is not a replacement game board.
Does the Reactor kit require an 8088 processor?
Yes. A compatible Intel 8088-family processor is required. The original Reactor processor may be reused, or a compatible replacement may be used.
Does the 8088 need to be socketed?
Yes. The documented 8088 processor location must use a compatible 40-pin socket before the daughterboard can be installed.
Does installation require soldering?
No soldering is required for the daughterboard installation when the original 8088 processor location is already properly socketed. If the processor is soldered directly to the PCB, a compatible 40-pin socket must be installed first.
How many Reactor high scores are retained?
The kit permanently retains the supported Top 10 Elite score table. The separate Daily Top 25 is temporary and is not retained after cabinet power is removed.
How do I access the Reactor settings menu?
With the cabinet powered off, hold Player 1 Start while turning the cabinet on, then release the button when prompted on screen.
What is Reactor God Mode?
God Mode provides unlimited lives for practice and exploration. Scores are not saved while God Mode is active.
Do I have to remove the original Reactor program ROMs?
No. Program-ROM removal is optional unless otherwise directed by HighScoreSaves. The daughterboard supplies the required supported game code, so designated original program ROMs may be removed and stored safely when desired.
Does the kit support upright and cocktail cabinets?
Yes. The kit supports documented compatible upright and cocktail Reactor configurations.
Is Wi-Fi required?
No. The Standard Save Kit stores supported scores and settings locally. Wi-Fi is optional for qualifying online leaderboard score submission.
