Rygar Free Play and High Score Save Kit

Product information "Rygar Free Play and High Score Save Kit"

Rygar Free Play and High Score Save Kit for Tecmo Arcade PCB

Upgrade a compatible original Tecmo Rygar arcade PCB with permanent Top 10 high score saving, player initials, Free Play, attract sounds, menu-driven settings, God Mode, separate score tables, and optional Wi-Fi leaderboard support.

The HighScoreSaves daughter card installs at the original Z80 processor location. The existing compatible Z80 may be transferred to the daughter card, or a compatible replacement processor may be selected when ordering.

The original Rygar PCB remains the operating arcade hardware. This is an original-PCB upgrade rather than a replacement JAMMA board, reproduction PCB, generic multicade, or software-emulation platform.

Choose Your Rygar Kit Configuration

Choose a Standard Save Kit for local score and settings storage or a Wi-Fi Enabled Kit that also supports qualifying online leaderboard score submission.

A compatible Z80 processor is required. The existing compatible Z80 may be transferred from the Rygar PCB to the daughter card, or a replacement Z80 may be selected when ordering.

The daughter card requires a suitable socketed Z80 CPU location. If the original Z80 is soldered directly to the PCB, a compatible 40-pin socket must be installed before fitting the kit.

Rygar Kit Features

  • Top 10 High Score Save: Permanently retains the Top 10 supported scores
  • Initials Entry: Player initials are retained with supported saved scores
  • Serial EEPROM Storage: Battery-free storage retains supported scores and settings after cabinet power is removed

Top 10 Scores and Lives-Based Score Tables

The Rygar kit permanently saves the Top 10 supported high scores and player initials using battery-free serial EEPROM storage.

Separate supported high score tables are maintained for the 2-, 3-, and 4-life configurations. This prevents scores earned under different lives settings from being combined into one leaderboard.

Rygar Free Play and Two-Player Operation

Free Play allows Rygar to start without inserting coins while traditional Coin-Up operation remains available when desired.

Rygar also supports two-player operation. When using Free Play, both players must be started together for two-player play.

Rygar Settings Menu and Stealth Mode

With cabinet power off, press and hold Player 1 Start. Continue holding Player 1 Start while turning the cabinet on, then release the button when prompted on screen.

The settings menu provides access to supported gameplay settings, lives configuration, Free Play, attract sounds, score functions, Backup and Restore, God Mode, Stealth Mode, copyright options, and other kit-specific settings.

Stealth Mode can suppress the normal menu-access prompt during startup for a more stock cabinet appearance. Holding Player 1 Start during power-on remains the method for accessing the settings menu.

Rygar God Mode Practice Setting

God Mode provides unlimited lives for practice and game exploration. High score saving is disabled while God Mode is active so practice-mode scores are not added to the permanent competitive score tables.

Rygar Installation Requirements

This kit is specifically designed for a compatible original Rygar PCB. Confirm that the existing game board is fully working before beginning installation. The kit is an upgrade for functioning hardware and is not intended to repair an existing PCB fault.

  • Required Hardware: Compatible original Tecmo Rygar PCB
  • Z80 Processor: A compatible Z80 is required on the HighScoreSaves daughter card
  • CPU Transfer: The existing compatible Z80 may be removed from the PCB and installed on the daughter card
  • CPU Socket: A suitable socketed Z80 location is required for the daughter-card installation
  • Pin 1: Verify Z80 and daughter-card orientation before restoring cabinet power
  • Underside Clearance: Verify that no original PCB component or test point contacts the underside of the daughter card
  • Original Blue Socket: Documented Rygar boards may use a very tight blue CPU socket. Apply firm, even pressure while carefully checking that every daughter-card pin enters the socket correctly

Rygar ROM Saver

The Rygar kit supports ROM Saver functionality for installations configured as directed. Original program ROM removal is optional; do not remove original ROMs unless following the supported kit configuration. Store any removed original components safely and document their locations.

Standard Save Kit vs. Wi-Fi Enabled Kit

The Standard Save Kit stores supported scores and settings locally and does not require an internet connection for normal Rygar gameplay, Free Play, menu operation, God Mode, or local high score saving.

The Wi-Fi Enabled Kit includes the same local functionality and adds qualifying online score submission to the HighScoreSaves leaderboard.

The kit is specifically designed for a compatible original Tecmo Rygar arcade PCB.

How many high scores are saved?

Why are there separate high score tables?

Separate supported score tables are maintained for the 2-, 3-, and 4-life settings so scores earned under different lives configurations are not mixed together.

Yes. In Free Play, both players must be started together for two-player operation.

What is God Mode?

God Mode provides unlimited lives for practice. Scores are not saved while God Mode is active.
