Taito CV070020 Sound, I/O and Shifter Board: Missing MB14241
The Taito CV070020 Sound, I/O and Shifter Board is used in compatible original Taito Space Invaders hardware. A working MB14241 data shifter is required for this board to operate with the HighScoreSaves Space Invaders Multigame Free Play and High Score Save Kit. A CV070020 board with the MB14241 missing is incomplete and cannot be used with the kit until a correctly installed 24-pin socket and MB14241 data shifter are present.
Compatibility Warning
The board is not usable with the MB14241 position empty. Installing a socket by itself does not complete the board. A correct 24-pin socket must be installed and an MB14241 data shifter must then be fitted in the proper orientation.

What the MB14241 Does
The MB14241 is a dedicated data-shifter IC used by Space Invaders hardware to shift video data correctly. If the device is missing or defective, the game cannot produce the intended video output. Symptoms associated with a missing or failed shifter can include scrambled graphics, misaligned graphics, missing image areas, or otherwise incorrect video.
Important: The MB14241 Is Not an EPROM
The empty 24-pin position is for the MB14241 data shifter. Do not install a program ROM or EPROM in this socket. Always confirm Pin 1 orientation before applying power.
Making a Missing-Shifter CV070020 Board Usable
- Confirm that the PCB is a Taito CV070020 Sound, I/O and Shifter Board.
- Inspect the MB14241 position and determine whether a quality 24-pin socket is already installed.
- If no socket is present, have a qualified arcade technician install the correct socket without damaging the PCB traces or through-holes.
- Install an original or reproduction MB14241 data shifter with Pin 1 aligned to the PCB and socket orientation.
- Inspect the complete boardset and verify correct operation after installation.
