Space Zap Free Play and High Score Save Kit for Bally Midway Arcade Hardware

Upgrade compatible original Bally Midway Space Zap arcade hardware with Free Play, permanent Top 5 high score saving with initials, adjustable attract sounds, menu-driven settings, ROM Saver functionality, and optional Wi-Fi leaderboard support while retaining the original arcade platform.

This HighScoreSaves kit uses the original hardware's Z80 processor location and supports the Space Zap board configuration without replacing the cabinet with a JAMMA board, reproduction PCB, generic multicade system, or software-emulation platform.

Choose Your Space Zap Kit Configuration

Select either a Standard Save Kit for local score and settings storage or a Wi-Fi Enabled Kit that adds qualifying online score submission to the HighScoreSaves leaderboard.

Processor and compatible 40-pin Z80 socket options may also be selected when needed for documented compatible original Bally Midway Space Zap hardware.

ROM Saver, Score Tables, and Stealth Mode

Space Zap has a game-specific ROM Saver configuration. With the HighScoreSaves kit installed, the original Program/ROM/RAM board is not required while the graphics RAM needed by the original arcade hardware remains installed.

Separate supported high-score tables are available for 2, 3, 4, and 5 lives settings, allowing scores earned under different lives configurations to remain independent.

Stealth Mode allows the cabinet to boot directly into normal Space Zap gameplay, while the Reset Button function provides an additional operator convenience without cycling cabinet power.

Space Zap Installation Requirements

• Original Hardware: Designed for documented compatible original Bally Midway Space Zap arcade hardware
• Z80 Processor: The documented Z80 CPU location must use a compatible 40-pin socket
• Already Socketed: No soldering, trace cutting, special wiring, or permanent PCB modification is required when the Z80 location is already properly socketed
• Soldered Z80: If the processor is soldered directly to the board, a compatible 40-pin socket must be installed before fitting the kit
• Program/ROM/RAM Board: The original board is removed when the kit is installed according to the Space Zap installation guide
• Graphics RAM: Leave the required graphics RAM installed as documented for Space Zap operation
• Before Power-Up: Confirm Pin 1 orientation, daughterboard seating, processor-pin alignment, socket condition, and the Space Zap board configuration described in the installation guide

Does this kit require original Space Zap arcade hardware?

Yes. The kit is designed for documented compatible original Bally Midway Space Zap arcade hardware and is not a replacement arcade board or emulation system.

Does the Z80 processor need to be socketed?

Yes. The documented Z80 processor location must use a compatible 40-pin socket before the daughterboard can be installed.

Do I need to solder anything?

No soldering is required when the documented Z80 processor location is already properly socketed. If the processor is soldered directly to the board, a compatible 40-pin socket must be installed first.

How many Space Zap high scores are saved?

The kit permanently stores the Top 5 Space Zap scores with player initials.

Can I use both Free Play and normal coin operation?

Yes. Space Zap can use Free Play while normal Coin-Up operation remains available for cabinets that continue to use coins or tokens.

Does Space Zap support attract sounds?

Yes. Attract sounds can be adjusted to 25%, 50%, or 100% of supported attract cycles.

Do I need the original Program/ROM/RAM board?

No. The original Program/ROM/RAM board is removed when the kit is installed according to the Space Zap installation guide, while the required graphics RAM remains installed.

Does the kit support Upright and Cocktail cabinets?

Yes. The kit supports documented compatible Upright and Cocktail Space Zap configurations.

What is Stealth Mode?

Stealth Mode boots directly into normal Space Zap gameplay without displaying the kit menu.

What is the difference between Standard and Wi-Fi?

Standard kits save supported scores and settings locally. Wi-Fi Enabled kits add qualifying online leaderboard submission while retaining local score saving.
